May 13th Mousehold Heath

Blackbird
This afternoon, I was back at Mousehold Heath to help Will the warden with a bird survey. It was very cloudy today and it made the air a bit cold. I was in top form in identifying and locating bird sounds for Will to jot down on a map of the site of roughly where all the territories were. It started extremely well with goldcrests, treecreepers, blackbirds, robins, blue tits, the odd blackcap and song thrush. Then it got quieter as we got half way through our transect, adding willow warbler, great tits, long-tailed tits and greenfinches. Robins and blackbirds dominated our survey with several singing and chasing one another everywhere we looked. As we walked around St James' Hill, chiffchaffs, whitethroats, house sparrows, long-tailed tits and more greenfinches were heard, providing a good end to the survey.
